Program / Admission Details

Program Description
The Emergency Medical Technician program provides training for out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation of critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.
Admission Requirements

The Emergency Medical Technician program is open to qualified high school and adult students who meet the following requirements:

  • High school students must be seniors
  • Students must be 18 in order to test for state licensure
  • Adult students must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • All students must complete the placement assessments as noted below

Students must also submit the following documentation:

  • Davis Tech Safety Information Acknowledgement
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. BLS certification must meet the requirements set forth by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness and must not expire before the end of the program. This course is offered through Davis Tech and ECOE.
    • All courses must have an in-person skills evaluation completed by an instructor. Online courses will not be accepted. A list of accepted courses is found here.

If you have questions regarding the admission requirements, program, or application process, please contact the Health Professions Advisor at 801-593-2362.

Admission Assessment Requirements

The following tests are required for this program:

Previous high school and/or college transcripts may waive some or all of the admission requirements. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable in most cases.

To be considered for a potential assessment waiver:

  • High school applicants will have their high school transcript reviewed; in addition, they may also submit their ACT/SAT scores
  • Adult applicants may submit unofficial high school transcripts, if courses were taken in the last three years; unofficial college transcripts from a regionally accredited institution; or ACT/SAT scores, if taken within the last 3 years
  • Applicants with a Davis Tech Certificate of Completion at an equivalent assessment level or higher
  • Applicants with an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution may submit a copy of their unofficial transcript of conferred degree

Documentation must be uploaded for an assessment waiver with program application or can be emailed to admissions@davistech.edu for review.
