Davis Technical College External Speaker Guidelines

Speaker Invitations

Faculty, staff, and student organizations may invite external speakers to campus events. All invitations must be approved by the appropriate department head or administrator. Speakers must align with the College’s values and educational mission.

Program Speaker Invitations Programs are strongly encouraged to actively engage industry partners, employers, alumni, and other professionals as guest speakers to provide students with real-world insights and best practices from their respective fields. Invited speakers must receive these guidelines in advance and are expected to keep their presentations focused on industry-related topics that enhance student learning and career readiness.

Use of College Name

External speakers and sponsoring organizations may not use the College’s name to imply endorsement or sponsorship. The name may only be used to identify the location of the event.

Event Planning and Facilities

Events must be scheduled through the Office of the President. Use of sound amplification, special effects (e.g., smoke machines, etc.), or other equipment must be approved in advance. Events must not disrupt teaching or other College operations.

Free Speech

Davis Technical College supports the rights of speakers and audiences to engage in free expression. Disruptions that prevent the audience from hearing the speaker or violate safety protocols are not permitted.

Review and Appeals

Decisions regarding speaker invitations or event logistics may be appealed to the College’s Ombuds. Final decisions will be made by the College administration.

Freedom of Expression and Safety

Davis Technical College supports freedom of expression and civil discourse. Expression that disrupts the functioning of the College or threatens safety is prohibited and will be addressed in accordance with institutional policies.
