Cost of Attendance - Credit Hours Policy - Student Financial Aid Policy and Procedures

  1. Purpose
    1. The US Department of Education requires schools to determine the cost of attending the institution. The five main components are tuition and fees, books and supplies, housing and food, transportation, and miscellaneous personal expenses. These costs are used to establish the student budget that is used in packaging and offers of Title IV funds.

  4. Policy
    1. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will determine the estimated cost of attendance
at least once every two years for the College. Costs are published on the Davis Technical College website.
  5. Procedure
    1. Costs are determined as follows:
      1. Tuition: Actual costs charged by the College, based on a 24 credit-hour program
      2. Program/Lab Fees: Average costs across programs. Programs with similar costs for program/lab fees are grouped together.
      3. Books and Supplies: Average costs across programs. Programs with similar costs for books and supplies are grouped together.
      4. Housing and Meals: Average of rent for studio, 1-bedroom, 2- bedroom, 3-
bedroom, and 4-bedroom apartments for Davis County using data gathered from rentdata.org website (https://www.rentdata.org/ogden-clearfield-ut-hud-metrofmr-area/2024) and the average mortgage payment based on data from the US Census Bureau for Davis County (https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/daviscountyutah). An additional $3,600 is
        added for meals.
        1. The average cost of meals is determined by a cost-of-living index for the state of Utah from the SoFi Bank website (https://www.sofi.com/cost-livingutah/)
      5. Transportation: Using the state reimbursement policy of cents per mile, the
College determines the cost using a 40-mile radius from campus.
      6. Miscellaneous/Personal Expenses: A base year allowance was established
when Davis Technical College began participation in Title IV programs (1983).
Each subsequent year, adjustments to the base have been made to account for
the Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI information is gathered from the Utah
Department of Employment Security’s Office of Labor Statistics
        (http://data.bls.gov/cgi- bin/cpicalc.pl).
      7. Dependent Care: Reasonable cost of dependent care in Davis County
      8. Individuals with Disabilities: Determined on a case-by-case basis.
