Course Details

Nursing Foundation students explore the Davis Tech Philosophy of Nursing, which is based on QSEN Competencies. During this course, students will study professionalism, legal aspects of nursing, and basic principles of prioritization and delegation to prepare them for clinical rotations within the community. This clinical preparation will also include completion of immunization requirements and current CPR certification, review of program policies and procedures, and demonstration of competence in dosage calculations and medical terminology.

Fundamentals of Nursing Practice is a comprehensive, introductory course designed for practical nursing students to develop essential skills and foundational knowledge necessary for delivering competent, safe, effective, and compassionate client care.

Fundamentals of Nursing Practice Clinical course provides students with the opportunity to apply the concepts they have learned from didactic nursing courses. This course will require students to practice patient safety as they perform basic nursing skills such as baseline assessments, administration of medications, sterile procedures, and other practical nursing skills in simulation and the clinical setting.

This course introduces essential mental health nursing concepts, emphasizing therapeutic communication to build strong nurse-client relationships. Students will learn to recognize and manage common mental health conditions using evidence-based interventions. The course prioritizes individualized, person-centered care, considering cultural and psychosocial factors, preparing students to deliver empathic, holistic care across the lifespan.

Principles of Nursing Across the Lifespan emphasizes developmental concepts throughout the human lifespan. During this course, students will examine all aspects of growth and development from fetal development to geriatrics beginning with genetics. Childhood growth and development will emphasize safety principles and care during hospitalization. Young adult growth and development will include a discussion on human sexuality. Adult growth and development will include perinatal nursing and the care of women, infants, and families during the childbearing process. Geriatric growth and development will focus on the aging population and the many life and health adjustments associated with this period of life.

This course builds on nursing fundamentals, focusing on care of individuals with varied medical and surgical needs, addressing etiology, symptoms, and management. Applying anatomy, physiology, and preventive care principles through evidence-based practices and the nursing process. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, holistic approaches, therapeutic communication, and adherence to professional standards to deliver individualized client care.

Medical-Surgical Nursing Care Clinical course provides students with the opportunity to apply the concepts they learned during the foundational courses. This course will emphasize providing developmentally appropriate care for both adults and children in medical and surgical settings. Students will also perform skills in a simulated lab setting and pass off skills in both lab and clinical settings.

Introduction to Nursing Pharmacology provides a fundamental understanding of pharmacology. This course covers the essential concepts of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dosage calculations, and the nursing process to ensure effective client care. Teaching focuses on the safe administration of medications, major drug classifications, adverse effects, and nursing interventions.

Application of Nursing Pharmacology continues to emphasize the safe administration of medications, including dosage calculations. As students focus on major drug classifications, adverse effects, nursing interventions, and related patient education they will be able to apply this information to different patient populations.
