WE LOVE HANDS-ON projects that contribute to the community. Construction Technology, Plumbing Apprenticeship, and Electrician Apprenticeship programs have been bustling.
1) BUILDING HOMES. In conjunction with YouthBuild USA, Weber County Housing Authority, and Weber State University, our students have been working on two homes for low-income families to help revitalize their neighborhoods. One is a stick-build constructed on-site, and the other is a modular home. Student Tayden Thompson said, “I like hands-on experiences. These projects teach me a little bit about the whole process.” He would like to be a contractor someday.
2) THE BIG DIG. American Cancer Society ‘The Big Dig 2023 – Cancer vs Construction.” Davis Tech and many partners brought out the large construction equipment for pediatric survivors. After the first hour, the rest of the community was invited to have some digging fun! There was face painting, bounce houses, and so much more. All the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society. Look for this event again next fall!
3) WATER METER INSTALLATION. By 2030, the Utah legislature requires that secondary water suppliers with a pressurized secondary system install meters on all end-user connections. There’s no time like the present; so, our plumbing students gathered to install a water meter for the city of Kaysville for our campus.
There is a lot of hands-on, real-world experience at Davis Tech! Thanks to our students for their skills on these projects. Also, thank you to our patient and knowledgeable instructors for making all of this happen!
