Course Details

This course explores the history of nail technology, basic anatomy, skin, nail structure and growth, infection control and sanitation procedures. You will study the fundamentals of manicures, pedicures, nail tip and form application, acrylic(s), gel(s), polish, and their applications. You will then perform these procedures using current professional techniques and tools. Your work must meet industry standards of quality, professionalism, efficiency, sanitation, and safety.

Nail Technician II builds on the foundational skills learned in Nail Technician I and provides additional instruction in nail art techniques. While in this course, you must fulfill all the requirements of an industry employee in performing several nail services. In addition, you will study work ethics, time management skills, and essential business skills such as licensing regulations and business law.

In the clinical course you will apply the principles and practices learned in the Nail Technician Theory and Nail Technician Skill Development courses as you perform a variety of services on clients in the Cosmetology salon. The clinicals will help prepare you to pass the State of Utah licensure exams.

The Nail Technology program provides the skills needed to work in a beauty or nail salon performing services such as natural nail care, including manicures and pedicures, and nail enhancements. Instruction also includes sanitation, salon safety, nail and skin disorders, professional ethics and salon management, and licensing laws and rules. Upon completion of the program, students have the knowledge and skills needed to take the state written and practical examinations required for licensure.
