The Esthetician program prepares students to enter the world of skin care and natural nail care by teaching the required skills for success in a competitive industry. Students will develop communication skills, professional behavior, and the core skills of working in or building a spa business. Students will work with spa guests in a modern, well-equipped spa and will perform these skills with the newest techniques, products and equipment in the industry. At the end of the program, students will be qualified to take the Utah State Esthetician Licensing Exam (a valid US Social Security Number and Government issued ID is necessary for licensure) |
ESTH 1150 Esthetician I120 Hours |
In this course, students will learn the basic procedures of skin care including an understanding of the basic structure and composition of the skin and maintenance of healthy skin. Students will learn the factors that influence aging of the skin and recognize which skin disorders can be treated in the salon and which should be referred to a physician. They will learn the procedures for proper set-up, cleaning, and disinfection during treatments and perform various types of facials, hair removal, superficial chemical peels, manicures, and pedicures on their classmates and models. |
ESTH 1251 Esthetician II150 Hours |
Esthetician II examines how nutrition affects the skin; various make-up techniques; and the procedures for advanced facials, chemical peels, and lash and brow tinting. You will perform gel manicures and pedicures and continue to develop their skills in hair removal on classmates and models. You will also learn business skills; how to communicate effectively with clients; and the importance of meeting industry standards of quality, professionalism, efficiency, sanitation, and safety in preparation for entering the esthetician industry. |

In the esthetician clinicals, you will apply the principles and practices learned in the Esthetician I and II courses as you perform a variety of services on clients in the cosmetology salon. The clinical will help prepare you to pass the State of Utah licensure exams. |

Students will learn to use effective study habits and strategies for remembering information found in their textbooks and heard in-class lectures. Students will also learn to use a strategy for reading and taking notes from textbooks, taking notes in class, and learn effective strategies for taking the five types of tests most frequently given by teachers. |
