COSM 0000 Cosmetology Orientation0 Hours
The Cosmetology program prepares students to enter the world of hair design, skin care, nail care and enhancements by teaching the required skills for success in a competitive industry. Students will develop communication skills, professional behavior, and the core skills of working in or building a salon business. Students will work with salon guests in a modern, well-equipped salon and will perform these skills with the newest techniques, products and equipment in the industry. At the end of the program, students will be qualified to take the Utah State Cosmetology Licensing Exams (a valid US Social Security Number and Government issued ID is necessary for licensure)
COSM 1150 Cosmetology Hair I150 Hours
Cosmetology Hair I explores the history of cosmetology, how to communicate effectively with clients, and basic anatomy. During this course, you will receive training on how to recognize and prevent infections, the properties of the hair and scalp, the principles of hair design, and the basics of chemistry and chemical texture services. You will study and practice services such as shampooing, braiding, and braided extensions. You will also be introduced to the history of men’s grooming and study straight razor shaving techniques. Throughout the course, you will examine how to build a clientele, develop effective working habits, be a salon team player, and demonstrate the qualities necessary to succeed in the profession.
COSM 1155 Cosmetology Hair II150 Hours
Cosmetology Hair II continues to examine the art of hairstyling, wigs, hair cutting, and hair coloring. Throughout the course, you will explore how to build a clientele, develop effective working habits, be a salon team player, and demonstrate the qualities necessary to succeed in the profession. You will also be introduced to an in-depth look at what it takes to be a business owner and the laws that govern the industry.
COSM 1160 Cosmetology Nails150 Hours
This course teaches students the basic procedures in Nail Technology, including an understanding of skin and nail growth, diseases and disorders and how to recognize which skin disorders can be treated in the salon and which should be referred to a physician. Students will learn how to perform and master services such as manicuring, pedicuring, acrylic nail enhancements and UV gels.
COSM 1165 Cosmetology Esthetics150 Hours
Cosmetology Esthetics introduces the basic procedures in skin care including an understanding of the basic structure and composition of the skin and maintenance of healthy skin. Throughout this course, you will explore the factors that influence aging of the skin and recognize which skin disorders can be treated in the salon and which ones should be referred to a physician. You will also perform and master various types of hair removal, facials, superficial peels and makeup techniques.
